Ferrari goes aggressive in Azerbaijan GP tyre choice

Ferrari has opted for the most number of ultrasoft tyres for the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix during April 27-29 weekend, the Round 4 in the 2018 Formula 1 season. The Italian manufacturer has gone for 10 sets of the purple-coloured tyre.

Both the Suaber drivers have also opted for the same, while McLaren's Stoffel Vandoorne is the only other driver with 10 sets. While the ultrasoft sets is same between Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, but the soft and supersoft sets are different.

Vettel has gone for two sets of supersoft and one of soft, same as Vandoorne and Sauber's Charles Leclerc, while Raikkonen has two sets of soft and one of supersoft which is same as Sauber's Marcus Ericsson.

Mercedes, meanwhile, has opted for nine sets of ultrasoft compound, same as Force India, Haas and McLaren's Fernando Alonso. But then Valtteri Bottas has gone for three sets of supersoft compound and one soft, same as the Haas drivers and Alonso.

While, Hamilton has gone for two sets of supersoft and soft respectively which is same as the two Force India drivers. Meanwhile, Red Bull Racing drivers have opted for eight sets of ultrasoft compound, along with Williams and Toro Rosso.

Only Lance Stroll has a different choice in the other compounds with the Canadian going for four sets of supersoft and one soft, while Sergey Sirtokin along with Red Bull and Toro Rosso drivers have opted for three sets of supersoft and two of soft compound.

Renault is the only team with seven sets of ultrasoft compound with four of supersoft and two sets of soft in their other choices. The teams will get 13 set of tyres for the weekend, with one set of the softest compound to be kept for use in Q3.

After the completion of qualifying, the Top 10 drivers will have to return that set, while the other drivers can keep it for the race. For the races, each driver has to keep one set each of the two harder compounds available for the weekend, while the rest 10 sets they are free to choose from the three available compounds for the particular driver.
